Isaiah 5:5

5:5 Now I will inform you

what I am about to do to my vineyard:

I will remove its hedge and turn it into pasture, ¹ 

I will break its wall and allow animals to graze there. ² 

Isaiah 31:3

31:3 The Egyptians are mere humans, not God;

their horses are made of flesh, not spirit.

The Lord will strike with ³  his hand;

the one who helps will stumble

and the one being helped will fall.

Together they will perish. ⁴ 

Isaiah 42:25

42:25 So he poured out his fierce anger on them,

along with the devastation ⁵  of war.

Its flames encircled them, but they did not realize it; ⁶ 

it burned against them, but they did notice. ⁷ 

Isaiah 66:24

66:24 “They will go out and observe the corpses of those who rebelled against me, for the maggots that eat them will not die, ⁸  and the fire that consumes them will not die out. ⁹  All people will find the sight abhorrent.” ¹⁰ 

[5:5]  ¹ tn Heb “and it will become [a place for] grazing.” בָּעַר (ba’ar, “grazing”) is a homonym of the more often used verb “to burn.”

[31:3]  ⁴ tn Heb “together all of them will come to an end.”

[42:25]  ⁵ tn Heb “strength” (so KJV, NASB); NAB “fury”; NASB “fierceness”; NIV “violence.”

[42:25]  ⁶ tn Heb “and it blazed against him all around, but he did not know.” The subject of the third feminine singular verb “blazed” is the divine חֵמָה (khemah, “anger”) mentioned in the previous line.

[42:25]  ⁷ tn Heb “and it burned against him, but he did not set [it] upon [the] heart.”

[66:24]  ⁷ tn Heb “for their worm will not die.”

[66:24]  ⁸ tn Heb “and their fire will not be extinguished.”
