Isaiah 55:13

Context

55:13 Evergreens will grow in place of thorn bushes,

firs will grow in place of nettles;

they will be a monument to the Lord, 1 

a permanent reminder that will remain. 2

3:5 The one who conquers 3  will be dressed like them 4  in white clothing, 5  and I will never 6  erase 7  his name from the book of life, but 8  will declare 9  his name before my Father and before his angels.

[55:13]  1 tn Heb “to the Lord for a name.” For שֵׁם (shem) used in the sense of “monument,” see also 56:5, where it stands parallel to יָד (yad).

[55:13]  2 tn Or, more literally, “a permanent sign that will not be cut off.”

[3:5]  3 tn Or “who overcomes.”

[3:5]  4 tn Grk “thus.”
