Isaiah 58:10

58:10 You must ¹  actively help the hungry

and feed the oppressed. ² 

Then your light will dispel the darkness, ³ 

and your darkness will be transformed into noonday. ⁴ 

Isaiah 59:10

59:10 We grope along the wall like the blind,

we grope like those who cannot see; ⁵ 

we stumble at noontime as if it were evening.

Though others are strong, we are like dead men. ⁶ 

Isaiah 16:3

16:3 “Bring a plan, make a decision! ⁷ 

Provide some shade in the middle of the day! ⁸ 

Hide the fugitives! Do not betray ⁹  the one who tries to escape!

[16:3]  ⁹ sn It is unclear who is being addressed in this verse. Perhaps the prophet, playing the role of a panic stricken Moabite refugee, requests the leaders of Judah (the imperatives are plural) to take pity on the fugitives.

[16:3]  ¹⁰ tn Heb “Make your shade like night in the midst of noonday.” “Shade” here symbolizes shelter, while the heat of noonday represents the intense suffering of the Moabites. By comparing the desired shade to night, the speaker visualizes a huge dark shadow cast by a large tree that would provide relief from the sun’s heat.
