Isaiah’s Commission

6:1 In the year of King Uzziah’s death, ¹  I saw the sovereign master ²  seated on a high, elevated throne. The hem of his robe filled the temple.

Isaiah 30:19

30:19 For people will live in Zion;

in Jerusalem ³  you will weep no more. ⁴ 

When he hears your cry of despair, he will indeed show you mercy;

when he hears it, he will respond to you. ⁵ 

Isaiah 65:22

65:22 No longer will they build a house only to have another live in it, ⁶ 

or plant a vineyard only to have another eat its fruit, ⁷ 

for my people will live as long as trees, ⁸ 

and my chosen ones will enjoy to the fullest what they have produced. ⁹

[30:19]  ⁴ tn Heb “For people in Zion will live, in Jerusalem, you will weep no more.” The phrase “in Jerusalem” could be taken with what precedes. Some prefer to emend יֵשֵׁב (yeshev, “will live,” a Qal imperfect) to יֹשֵׁב (yoshev, a Qal active participle) and translate “For [you] people in Zion, who live in Jerusalem, you will weep no more.”

[30:19]  ⁵ tn Heb “he will indeed show you mercy at the sound of your crying out; when he hears, he will answer you.”

[65:22]  ⁵ tn Heb “they will not build, and another live [in it].”
