Zion’s Future Splendor

60:1 “Arise! Shine! For your light arrives!

The splendor ¹  of the Lord shines on you!

Isaiah 27:11

27:11 When its branches get brittle, ²  they break;

women come and use them for kindling. ³ 

For these people lack understanding, ⁴ 

therefore the one who made them has no compassion on them;

the one who formed them has no mercy on them.

Isaiah 60:19

60:19 The sun will no longer supply light for you by day,

nor will the moon’s brightness shine on you;

the Lord will be your permanent source of light –

the splendor of your God will shine upon you. ⁵

[27:11]  ² tn Heb “are dry” (so NASB, NIV, NRSV).

[27:11]  ³ tn Heb “women come [and] light it.” The city is likened to a dead tree with dried up branches that is only good for firewood.

[27:11]  ⁴ tn Heb “for not a people of understanding [is] he.”
