Isaiah 65:22

65:22 No longer will they build a house only to have another live in it, ¹ 

or plant a vineyard only to have another eat its fruit, ² 

for my people will live as long as trees, ³ 

and my chosen ones will enjoy to the fullest what they have produced. ⁴

Isaiah 65:15

65:15 Your names will live on in the curse formulas of my chosen ones. ⁹ 

The sovereign Lord will kill you,

but he will give his servants another name.

[28:11]  ⁵ sn This verse alludes to the coming Assyrian invasion, when the people will hear a foreign language that sounds like gibberish to them. The Lord is the subject of the verb “will speak,” as v. 12 makes clear. He once spoke in meaningful terms, but in the coming judgment he will speak to them, as it were, through the mouth of foreign oppressors. The apparent gibberish they hear will be an outward reminder that God has decreed their defeat.

[48:11]  ⁹ tn The Hebrew text repeats לְמַעֲנִי (lÿma’ani, “for my sake”) for emphasis.

[48:11]  ¹⁰ tn The Hebrew text reads literally, “for how can it be defiled?” The subject of the verb is probably “name” (v. 9).
