Judges 1:31

1:31

Asher <0836> [Asher.]

Acco <05910> [Accho.]

Accho, the Ptolemais of the Greeks and Romans, and called Saint John of Acre by the Crusaders, is situated on the Mediterranean, in a fine plain, at the north angle of a bay to which it gives name, and which extends in a semicircle of three leagues as far as Carmel, and nine leagues from Tyre.

Sidon <06721> [Zidon.]

Another celebrated city of Phoenicia, now SaidÅ , situated in a fine country on the Mediterranean, 400 stadia from Berytus, and 200 (north) from Tyre, according to Strabo, one day's journey from Paneas, according to Josephus, and sixty-six miles from Damascus, according to Abulfeda.

Aczib <0392> [Achzib.]

Or, Ecdippa, now Zib, nine miles north, from Accho.

Judges 1:33

1:33

Naphtali <05321> [Naphtali.]

people living ......... live ..... residing ....... living <03427> [he dwelt.]

forced to do hard labor <04522> [became.]

Judges 11:21

Judges 14:15

14:15

fourth day <03117 07637> [on the seventh day.]

The LXX. reads "on the fourth day;" with which the Syriac and Arabic agree. This, as Dr. Wall observes, is certainly right; for it appears from ver. 17, that she wept the remainder of the seven days; for which there could have been no time, if they did not threaten her till the seventh.

Trick <06601> [Entice.]

burn up <08313> [lest we burn.]

make ... poor <03423> [take that we have. Heb. possess us, or, impoverish us.]

Judges 18:7

18:7

Laish <03919> [Laish.]

[called Leshem. how they.]

conqueror <03423> [magistrate. Heb. possessor, or, heir of restraint.]

dealings <01697> [and had no.]

In the most correct copies of the LXX. this clause stands thus; [kai logos ouk en autois meta Syrias;] "and they had no transactions with Syria;" evidently reading instead of ['ƒdƒm <\\See definition 0120\\>] {adam,} man, ['Arƒm <\\See definition 0758\\>] {aram,} Syria; words so nearly similar that the only difference between them is in the [Rˆysh,] {raish,} and [Dƒleth,] daleth, which in both MSS. and printed books is sometimes indiscernible. Laish was situated on the frontiers of Syria.

Judges 18:9

18:9

Come on <06965> [Arise.]

lethargic <02814> [are ye still.]

hesitate <06101> [be not.]
