1:4 The men of Judah attacked, ¹  and the Lord handed the Canaanites and Perizzites over to them. They killed ten thousand men at Bezek.

Judges 1:13

1:13 When Othniel son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother, ²  captured it, Caleb ³  gave him his daughter Acsah as a wife.

Judges 7:16

7:16 He divided the three hundred men into three units. ⁴  He gave them all trumpets and empty jars with torches inside them. ⁵

[1:13]  ² tn “Caleb’s younger brother” may refer to Othniel or to Kenaz (in which case Othniel was Caleb’s nephew; so CEV).

[1:13]  ³ tn Heb “he”; the referent (Caleb) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[7:16]  ³ tn Heb “heads.”

[7:16]  ⁴ tn Heb “the jars.” The noun has been replaced by the pronoun (“them”) in the translation for stylistic reasons.
