Judges 18:7
Context18:7 So the five men journeyed on 4 and arrived in Laish. They noticed that the people there 5 were living securely, like the Sidonians do, 6 undisturbed and unsuspecting. No conqueror was troubling them in any way. 7 They lived far from the Sidonians and had no dealings with anyone. 8
Genesis 49:13
Context49:13 Zebulun will live 9 by the haven of the sea
and become a haven for ships;
his border will extend to Sidon. 10
Joshua 11:8-13
Context11:8 The Lord handed them over to Israel and they struck them down and chased them all the way to Greater Sidon, 11 Misrephoth Maim, 12 and the Mizpah Valley to the east. They struck them down until no survivors remained. 11:9 Joshua did to them as the Lord had commanded him; he hamstrung their horses and burned 13 their chariots.
11:10 At that time Joshua turned, captured Hazor, 14 and struck down its king with the sword, for Hazor was at that time 15 the leader of all these kingdoms. 11:11 They annihilated everyone who lived there with the sword 16 – no one who breathed remained – and burned 17 Hazor.
11:12 Joshua captured all these royal cities and all their kings and annihilated them with the sword, 18 as Moses the Lord’s servant had commanded. 11:13 But Israel did not burn any of the cities located on mounds, 19 except for Hazor; 20 it was the only one Joshua burned.
Joshua 19:28
Context19:28 and on to Ebron, 21 Rehob, Hammon, and Kanah, as far as Greater Sidon. 22
[10:12] 1 tc The translation follows the LXX which reads “Midian”; the Hebrew text has “Maon.”
[10:12] 2 tn The words “Did I not deliver you” are interpretive. The Hebrew text simply reads, “Is it not from Egypt…when they oppressed you?” Perhaps the incomplete sentence reflects the
[18:7] 5 tn Heb “who were in its midst.”
[18:7] 6 tn Heb “according to the custom of the Sidonians.”
[18:7] 7 tn Heb “and there was no one humiliating anything in the land, one taking possession [by] force.”
[18:7] 8 tc Heb “and a thing there was not to them with men.” Codex Alexandrinus (A) of the LXX and Symmachus read “Syria” here rather than the MT’s “men.” This reading presupposes a Hebrew Vorlage אֲרָם (’aram, “Aram,” i.e., Arameans) rather than the MT reading אָדָם (’adam). This reading is possibly to be preferred over the MT.
[49:13] 9 tn The verb שָׁכַן (shakhan) means “to settle,” but not necessarily as a permanent dwelling place. The tribal settlements by the sea would have been temporary and not the tribe’s territory.

[11:8] 12 tn The meaning of the Hebrew name “Misrephoth Maim” is perhaps “lime-kilns by the water” (see HALOT 2:641).
[11:9] 13 tn Heb “burned with fire”; the words “with fire” are redundant in English and have not been included in the translation.
