Judges 10:9

10:9 The Ammonites crossed the Jordan to fight with Judah, Benjamin, and Ephraim. ¹  Israel suffered greatly. ² 

Judges 18:29

18:29 They named it Dan after their ancestor, who was one of Israel’s sons. ³  But the city’s name used to be Laish.

[10:9]  ¹ tn Heb “the house of Ephraim.”

[10:9]  ² tn Or “Israel experienced great distress.” Perhaps here the verb has the nuance “hemmed in.”

[18:29]  ³ tn Heb “They called the name of the city Dan, after the name of Dan their father, who had been born to Israel.”
