Judges 11:19

11:19 Israel sent messengers to King Sihon, the Amorite king who ruled in Heshbon, and said to him, “Please allow us to pass through your land to our land.” ¹ 

Judges 19:28

19:28 He said to her, “Get up, let’s leave!” But there was no response. He put her on the donkey and went home. ²

The Israelites retreated before ⁵  Benjamin, because they had confidence in the men they had hid in ambush outside Gibeah.
