6:15 Gideon ¹  said to him, “But Lord, ²  how ³  can I deliver Israel? Just look! My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the youngest in my family.” ⁴

Judges 16:10

16:10 Delilah said to Samson, “Look, you deceived ⁸  me and told me lies! Now tell me how you can be subdued.”

[6:15]  ² tn Note the switch to אֲדֹנָי (’adonay, “Lord”). Gideon seems aware that he is speaking to someone other than, and superior to, the messenger, whom he addressed as אֲדֹנִי (’adoniy, “my lord”) in v. 13.

[6:15]  ⁴ tn Heb “in my father’s house.”

[9:9]  ⁵ tn Heb “Should I stop my abundance, with which they honor gods and men, and go to sway over the trees?” The negative sentence in the translation reflects the force of the rhetorical question.

[15:12]  ⁹ tn Or “swear to me.”

[15:12]  ¹⁰ tn Heb “meet [with hostility]”; “harm.” In light of v. 13, “kill” is an appropriate translation.
