Context9:24 He did this so the violent deaths of Jerub-Baal’s seventy sons might be avenged and Abimelech, their half-brother 1 who murdered them, might have to pay for their spilled blood, along with the leaders of Shechem who helped him murder them. 2
Judges 14:17
Context14:17 She cried on his shoulder 3 until the party was almost over. 4 Finally, on the seventh day, he told her because she had nagged him so much. 5 Then she told the young men the solution to the riddle. 6

[9:24] 1 tn Heb “their brother.”
[9:24] 2 tn Heb “so that the violence done to the seventy sons of Jerub-Baal might come, and their blood might be placed on Abimelech, their brother, who murdered them, and upon the leaders of Shechem, who strengthened his hands to murder his brothers.”
[14:17] 4 tn Heb “the seven days [during] which they held the party.” This does not mean she cried for the entire seven days; v. 15 indicates otherwise. She cried for the remainder of the seven day period, beginning on the fourth day.
[14:17] 5 tn Heb “because she forced him.”
[14:17] 6 tn Heb “she told the riddle to the sons of her people.”
