15:18 Why must I continually suffer such painful anguish?

Why must I endure the sting of their insults like an incurable wound?

Will you let me down when I need you

like a brook one goes to for water, but that cannot be relied on?” ¹

25:28 If they refuse to take the cup from your hand and drink it, tell them that the Lord who rules over all says ²  ‘You most certainly must drink it! ³ 

Jeremiah 50:33

50:33 The Lord who rules over all ⁴  says,

“The people of Israel are oppressed.

So too are the people of Judah. ⁵ 

All those who took them captive are holding them prisoners.

They refuse to set them free.

[15:18]  ¹ tn Heb “Will you be to me like a deceptive (brook), like waters which do not last [or are not reliable].”

[25:28]  ² tn Heb “Tell them, ‘Thus says the Lord…’” The translation is intended to eliminate one level of imbedded quote marks to help avoid confusion.

[25:28]  ³ tn The translation attempts to reflect the emphatic construction of the infinitive absolute preceding the finite verb which is here an obligatory imperfect. (See Joüon 2:371-72 §113.m and 2:423 §123.h, and compare usage in Gen 15:13.)

[50:33]  ³ tn Heb “Yahweh of armies.” For an explanation of this title see the study note on 2:19.

[50:33]  ⁴ tn Heb “Oppressed are the people of Israel and the people of Judah together,” i.e., both the people of Israel and Judah are oppressed. However, neither of these renderings is very poetic. The translation seeks to achieve the same meaning with better poetic expression.
