Jeremiah 23:30

23:30 So I, the Lord, affirm 1  that I am opposed to those prophets who steal messages from one another that they claim are from me. 2

49:14 I said, 3  “I have heard a message from the Lord.

A messenger has been sent among the nations to say,

‘Gather your armies and march out against her!

Prepare to do battle with her!’” 4

[23:30]  1 tn Heb “Oracle of the Lord.”

[23:30]  2 tn Heb “who are stealing my words from one another.” However, context shows that it is their own word which they claim is from the Lord (cf. next verse).

[49:14]  3 tn The words “I said” are not in the text but it is generally agreed that the words that follow are Jeremiah’s. These words are supplied in the translation to make clear that the speaker has shifted from the Lord to Jeremiah.

[49:14]  4 tn Heb “Rise up for battle.” The idea “against her” is implicit from the context and has been supplied in the translation for clarity.
