26:23 and they brought Uriah back from there. 1  They took him to King Jehoiakim, who had him executed and had his body thrown into the burial place of the common people. 2

37:14 Jeremiah answered, “That’s a lie! I am not deserting to the Babylonians.” 3  But Irijah would not listen to him. Irijah put Jeremiah under arrest and took him to the officials.

52:11 He had Zedekiah’s eyes put out and had him bound in chains. 4  Then the king of Babylon had him led off to Babylon and he was imprisoned there until the day he died.

[26:23]  1 tn Heb “from Egypt.”

[26:23]  2 sn The burial place of the common people was the public burial grounds, distinct from the family tombs, where poor people without any distinction were buried. It was in the Kidron Valley east of Jerusalem (2 Kgs 23:6). The intent of reporting this is to show the ruthlessness of Jehoiakim.

[37:14]  3 tn Heb “the Chaldeans.” See the study note on 21:4 for explanation.

[52:11]  5 tn Heb “fetters of bronze.” The more generic “chains” is used in the translation because “fetters” is a word unfamiliar to most modern readers.
