Jeremiah 4:26

4:26 I looked and saw that the fruitful land had become a desert

and that all of the cities had been laid in ruins.

The Lord had brought this all about

because of his blazing anger. ¹ 

Jeremiah 10:21

10:21 For our leaders ²  are stupid.

They have not sought the Lord’s advice. ³ 

So they do not act wisely,

and the people they are responsible for ⁴  have all been scattered.

Jeremiah 22:17

22:17 But you are always thinking and looking

for ways to increase your wealth by dishonest means.

Your eyes and your heart are set

on killing some innocent person

and committing fraud and oppression. ⁵

[10:21]  ² tn Heb “the shepherds.”

[10:21]  ³ tn Heb “They have not sought the Lord.”

[10:21]  ⁴ tn Heb “all their flock (or “pasturage”).”

[22:17]  ³ tn Heb “Your eyes and your heart do not exist except for dishonest gain and for innocent blood to shed [it] and for fraud and for oppression to do [them].” The sentence has been broken up to conform more to English style and the significance of “eyes” and “heart” explained before they are introduced into the translation.
