Jeremiah 5:24

5:24 They do not say to themselves, ¹ 

“Let us revere the Lord our God.

It is he who gives us the autumn rains and the spring rains at the proper time.

It is he who assures us of the regular weeks of harvest.” ² 

Jeremiah 15:16

15:16 As your words came to me I drank them in, ³ 

and they filled my heart with joy and happiness

because I belong to you. ⁴ 

Jeremiah 32:40

32:40 I will make a lasting covenant ⁵  with them that I will never stop doing good to them. ⁶  I will fill their hearts and minds with respect for me so that ⁷  they will never again turn ⁸  away from me.

Jeremiah 51:46

51:46 Do not lose your courage or become afraid

because of the reports that are heard in the land.

For a report will come in one year.

Another report will follow it in the next.

There will be violence in the land

with ruler fighting against ruler.”

Jeremiah 51:50

51:50 You who have escaped the sword, ⁹ 

go, do not delay. ¹⁰

[15:16]  ³ sn Heb “Your words were found and I ate them.” This along with Ezek 2:8–3:3 is a poetic picture of inspiration. The prophet accepted them, assimilated them, and made them such a part of himself that he spoke with complete assurance what he knew were God’s words.

[32:40]  ⁵ tn Heb “an everlasting covenant.” For the rationale for the rendering “agreement” and the nature of the biblical covenants see the study note on 11:2.

Both translations are intended to reflect the difference in psychology.

[51:50]  ⁷ sn God’s exiled people are told to leave doomed Babylon (see v. 45).

[51:50]  ⁹ tn Heb “let Jerusalem go up upon your heart.” The “heart” is often viewed as the seat of one’s mental faculties and thought life.
