35:5 Gaze at the heavens and see;

consider the clouds, which are higher than you! ¹ 

Job 40:11

40:11 Scatter abroad ²  the abundance ³  of your anger.

Look at every proud man ⁴  and bring him low;

[35:5]  ¹ tn The preposition is taken here as a comparative min (מִן). The line could also read “that are high above you.” This idea has appeared in the speech of Eliphaz (22:12), Zophar (11:7ff.), and even Job (9:8ff.).

[40:11]  ² tn The verb was used for scattering lightning (Job 37:11). God is challenging Job to unleash his power and judge wickedness in the world.

[40:11]  ³ tn Heb “the overflowings.”

[40:11]  ⁴ tn The word was just used in the positive sense of excellence or majesty; now the exalted nature of the person refers to self-exaltation, or pride.
