Job 41:20-21

41:20 Smoke streams from its nostrils

as from a boiling pot over burning ¹  rushes.

41:21 Its breath sets coals ablaze

and a flame shoots from its mouth.

8:16 The snorting of the enemy’s horses

is already being heard in the city of Dan.

The sound of the neighing of their stallions ² 

causes the whole land to tremble with fear.

They are coming to destroy the land and everything in it!

[41:20]  ¹ tn The word “burning” is supplied. The Syriac and Vulgate have “a seething and boiling pot” (reading אֹגֵם [’ogem] for אַגְמֹן [’agmon]). This view is widely accepted.

[8:16]  ³ tn The words “They are coming to destroy” are not in the text. They are inserted to break up a long sentence in conformity with contemporary English style.
