[Joe 2:12] By Precepts Taught Of Ages Past
By precepts taught of ages past,
Now let us keep again the fast,
Which, year by year, in order meet
Of forty days is made complete.The law and seers that were of old
In divers ways this Lent foretold,
Which Christ Himself, the Lord and Guide
Of every season, sanctified.More sparing therefore let us make
The words we speak, the food we take,
Deny ourselves in mirth and sleep,
In stricter watch our senses keep.In prayer together let us fall,
And cry for mercy, one and all;
And weep before the Judge, and say,
O turn from us Thy wrath away.Thy grace have we offended sore
By sins, O God, which we deplore;
Pour down upon us from above
The riches of Thy pardoning love.Remember, Lord, though frail we be,
That yet Thine handiwork are we:
Nor let the honor of Thy Name
Be by another put to shame.Forgive the ill that we have wrought,
Increase the good that we have sought;
That we at length, our wanderings o’er,
May please Thee now and evermore.Blest Three in One, and One in Three,
Almighty God, we pray to Thee,
That Thou wouldst now vouchsafe to bless
Our fast with fruits of righteousness.Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[Joe 2:12] Good It Is To Keep The Fast
Good it is to keep the fast,
Shadowed forth in ages past,
Which our own Almighty Lord
Hallowed by His deed and Word.Moses, while he fasted, saw
God Who gave by him the law;
To Elijah angels came,
Steeds of fire and car of flame.So was Daniel meet to gaze
On the sight of latter days
And the Baptist to proclaim
Blessings through the Bridegroom’s Name.Grant us, Lord, like them to be
Oft in prayer and fast with Thee;
Fill us with Thy heavenly might,
Be our Joy and true Delight.Father, hear us through Thy Son,
And the Spirit, with Thee One,
Whom our thankful hearts adore,
Ever and forevermore.Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[Joe 2:13] Once More The Solemn Season Calls
Once more the solemn season calls
A holy fast to keep;
And now within the temple walls
Let priest and people weep.But vain all outward sign of grief,
And vain the form of prayer,
Unless the heart implore relief,
And penitence be there.We smite the breast, we weep in vain,
In vain in ashes mourn,
Unless with penitential pain
The smitten soul be torn.In sorrow true then let us pray
To our offended God,
From us to turn His wrath away
And stay the uplifted rod.O God, our Judge and Father, deign
To spare the bruisèd reed;
We pray for time to turn again,
For grace to turn indeed.Blest Three in One to Thee we bow;
Vouchsafe us, in Thy love,
To gather from these fasts below
Immortal fruit above.Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[Joe 2:21] Rejoice, O Land, In God Thy Might
Rejoice, O land, in God thy might,
His will obey, Him serve aright;
For Thee the saints uplift their voice:
Fear not, O land, in God rejoice.Glad shalt thou be, with blessing crowned,
With joy and peace thou shalt abound;
Yea, Love with thee shall make His home
Until thou see God’s kingdom come.He shall forgive thy sins untold:
Remember thou His love of old;
Walk in His way, His word adore,
And keep His truth for evermore.Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[Joe 2:28] Don’t Lose The Vision
O have you had the vision, have you heard the cry
Of millions lost and perishing, O do not let them die;
Their souls have all been purchased at how great a cost!
Don’t lose the vision, keep your eye upon the cross.Refrain
Don’t lose the vision, keep your eye upon the cross;
Don’t lose the vision, or the cause will suffer loss;
If you want to reach another,
Keep in touch with Christ, my brother,
Don’t lose the vision, keep your eye upon the cross.The young men shall see visions and the old dream dreams,
The wilderness be watered, in the desert shall be streams,
The Spirit poured upon us, cleansing from all dross,
Don’t lose the vision, keep your eye upon the cross.Refrain
Isaiah had a vision of the Lord on high
Whose train filled all the temple and he heard the seraph cry;
O Holy, Holy, Holy, is the Lord of hosts,
Don’t lose the vision, keep your eye upon the cross.Refrain
The vision of the prophet showed to him his sin;
He cried out, “Woe is me! for I am still unclean within”;
The fire from off the altar purged his heart from dross,
Don’t lose the vision, keep your eye upon the cross.Refrain
The fields are white to harvest, have you heard the call?
The Spirit now is waiting, won’t you yield to Him our all?
The time is swiftly passing, O! the fearful loss,
Don’t lose the vision, keep your eye upon the cross.Refrain

[Joe 2:28] Holy Ghost, With Light Divine
Holy Ghost, with light divine,
Shine upon this heart of mine;
Chase the shade of night away,
Turn my darkness into day.Let me see my Savior’s face,
Let me all His beauties trace;
Show those glorious truths to me
Which are only known to Thee.Holy Ghost, with power divine,
Cleanse this guilty heart of mine;
Long has sin, without control,
Held dominion o’er my soul.Holy Ghost, with joy divine,
Cheer this saddened heart of mine;
Bid my many woes depart,
Heal my wounded, bleeding heart.Holy Spirit, all divine,
Dwell within this heart of mine;
Cast down every idol throne,
Reign supreme, and reign alone.See, to Thee I yield my heart,
Shed Thy life through every part;
A pure temple I would be,
Wholly dedicate to Thee.Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[Joe 2:28] Joy! Because The Circling Year
Joy! because the circling year
Brings our day of blessings here;
Day when first the light divine
On the Church began to shine.Like to quivering tongues of flame
Unto each the Spirit came,
Tongues, that earth might hear their call,
Fire, that love might burn in all.So the wondrous works of God
Wondrously were spread abroad;
Every tribe’s familiar tone
Made the glorious marvel known.Hardened scoffers vainly jeered;
Listening strangers heard and feared,
Knew the prophets’ word fulfilled,
Owned the work which God had willed.Still Thy Spirit’s fullness, Lord,
On Thy waiting Church be poured;
Grant our burdened hearts release;
Grant us Thine abiding peace.Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[Joe 2:28] Winter Reigns O’er Many A Region
Winter reigns o’er many a region,
Many a seed field fallow lies;
When, O Lord, shall come the springtime,
With its quickening energies?
When shall this long night be ended?
When the morning dawn appear?
When shall drought give place to freshness?
When these deserts bloom with cheer?Lord, Thy Church is ever praying:
Now her anxious yearnings hear;
Speed the triumphs of Thy kingdom;
Spread its vict’ries far and near;
Own the work, Thy grace attend it,
Which we undertake for Thee;
Let a holy love inflame us;
Kindle zeal and fervency.That Thy fields be rightly cultured,
Send the laborers that we need,
Men to light the heavy darkness,
Sow the wastes with precious seed.
Then send down the gentle showers,
Make Thy gracious sunlight shine,
That each field may joy with blessing,
Bringing forth the fruits divine.By the breezes of Thy Spirit,
Fan all deadness into life;
Bless the seeds to Thee upspringing,
Keep each plant from blast and strife.
And, ye toilers in this seeding,
Know the promise God hath given:
Glorious crowns await the faithful,
And eternal gains in Heaven.Play source: Cyberhymnal
