John 1:15

1:15 John ¹  testified ²  about him and shouted out, ³  “This one was the one about whom I said, ‘He who comes after me is greater than I am, ⁴  because he existed before me.’”

John 1:30

1:30 This is the one about whom I said, ‘After me comes a man who is greater than I am, ⁵  because he existed before me.’

Acts 19:4

19:4 Paul said, “John baptized with a baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in the one who was to come after him, ⁶  that is, in Jesus.”

[1:15]  ³ tn Grk “and shouted out saying.” The participle λέγων (legwn) is redundant is English and has not been translated.

[19:4]  ⁶ sn These disciples may have had their contact with John early on in the Baptist’s ministry before Jesus had emerged. This is the fifth time Luke links John the Baptist and Jesus (Acts 1:5; 11:16; 13:25; 18:25).
