John 1:22
Context1:22 Then they said to him, “Who are you? Tell us 1 so that we can give an answer to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?”
John 9:4
Context9:4 We must perform the deeds 2 of the one who sent me 3 as long as 4 it is daytime. Night is coming when no one can work.
John 9:34
Context9:34 They replied, 5 “You were born completely in sinfulness, 6 and yet you presume to teach us?” 7 So they threw him out.

[1:22] 1 tn The words “Tell us” are not in the Greek but are implied.
[9:4] 2 tn Grk “We must work the works.”
[9:4] 3 tn Or “of him who sent me” (God).
[9:34] 3 tn Grk “They answered and said to him.” This has been simplified in the translation to “They replied.”
[9:34] 4 tn Or “From birth you have been evil.” The implication of this insult, in the context of John 9, is that the man whom Jesus caused to see had not previously adhered rigorously to all the conventional requirements of the OT law as interpreted by the Pharisees. Thus he had no right to instruct them about who Jesus was.
