John 13:33

Context
13:33 Children, I am still with you for a little while. You will look for me, 1  and just as I said to the Jewish religious leaders, 2  ‘Where I am going you cannot come,’ 3  now I tell you the same. 4

John 13:36

John 17:24

Hebrews 6:20

Hebrews 9:8

Context

Hebrews 9:23-26

Context
9:23 So it was necessary for the sketches 10  of the things in heaven to be purified with these sacrifices, 11  but the heavenly things themselves required 12  better sacrifices than these. 9:24 For Christ did not enter a sanctuary made with hands – the representation 13  of the true sanctuary 14  – but into heaven itself, and he appears now in God’s presence for us. 9:25 And he did not enter to offer 15  himself again and again, the way the high priest enters the sanctuary year after year with blood that is not his own, 9:26 for then he would have had to suffer again and again since the foundation of the world. But now he has appeared once for all at the consummation of the ages to put away sin by his sacrifice.

Hebrews 11:16

Context
11:16 But as it is, 16  they aspire to a better land, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore, God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.

Revelation 21:2

Context
21:2 And I saw the holy city – the new Jerusalem – descending out of heaven from God, made ready like a bride adorned for her husband.

[13:33]  1 tn Or “You will seek me.”

[13:33]  2 tn Grk “the Jews.” In NT usage the term ᾿Ιουδαῖοι (Ioudaioi) may refer to the entire Jewish people, the residents of Jerusalem and surrounding territory, the authorities in Jerusalem, or merely those who were hostile to Jesus. (For further information see R. G. Bratcher, “‘The Jews’ in the Gospel of John,” BT 26 [1975]: 401-9.) Here the phrase refers to the residents of Jerusalem in general, or to the Jewish religious leaders in particular, who had sent servants to attempt to arrest Jesus on that occasion (John 7:33-35). The last option is the one adopted in the translation above.

[13:33]  3 sn See John 7:33-34.

[13:33]  4 tn The words “the same” are not in the Greek text but are implied. Direct objects in Greek were often omitted when clear from the context.

[13:36]  5 tn Grk “Jesus answered him.”

[17:24]  6 tn Grk “the ones you have given me, I want these to be where I am with me.”

[17:24]  7 tn Grk “before the foundation of the world.”

[6:20]  8 sn A quotation from Ps 110:4, picked up again from Heb 5:6, 10.

[9:8]  9 tn Grk “the first tent.” The literal phrase “the first tent” refers to either (1) the outer chamber of the tabernacle in the wilderness (as in vv. 2, 6) or (2) the entire tabernacle as a symbol of the OT system of approaching God. The second is more likely given the contrast that follows in vv. 11-12.

[9:23]  10 tn Or “prototypes,” “outlines,” referring to the earthly sanctuary. See Heb 8:5 above for the prior use of this term.

[9:23]  11 tn Grk “with these”; in the translation the referent (sacrifices) has been specified for clarity.

[9:23]  12 tn Grk “the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.”

[9:24]  13 tn Or “prefiguration.”

[9:24]  14 tn The word “sanctuary” is not in the Greek text at this point, but has been supplied for clarity.

[9:25]  15 tn Grk “and not that he might offer,” continuing the previous construction.

[11:16]  16 tn Grk “now.”
