7:40 When they heard these words, some of the crowd ¹  began to say, “This really ²  is the Prophet!” ³

[7:40]  ³ sn The Prophet is a reference to the “prophet like Moses” of Deut 18:15, by this time an eschatological figure in popular belief.

[12:18]  ⁴ tn Grk “he”; the referent (Jesus) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[12:31]  ⁷ sn The ruler of this world is a reference to Satan.

[12:31]  ⁸ tn Or “will be thrown out.” This translation regards the future passive ἐκβληθήσεται (ekblhqhsetai) as referring to an event future to the time of speaking.
