23:3 You saw everything the Lord your God did to all these nations on your behalf, for the Lord your God fights for you. ¹⁶ 

Joshua 23:5

23:5 The Lord your God will drive them out from before you and remove them, ¹⁷  so you can occupy ¹⁸  their land as the Lord your God promised ¹⁹  you.

Joshua 24:22

24:22 Joshua said to the people, “Do you agree to be witnesses against yourselves that you have chosen to worship the Lord?” ²⁰  They replied, “We are witnesses!” ²¹ 

[1:3]  ¹ tn Heb “Every place on which the sole of your foot walks, to you I have given it, as I said to Moses.” The second person pronouns in vv. 3-4 are plural, indicating that all the people are addressed here. The verbal form נְתַתִּיו (nÿtattiv, “I have given it”) is probably a perfect of certitude, emphasizing the certainty of the action. Another option is to translate, “I have already assigned it.” In this case the verb would probably refer to the Lord’s decree to Abraham that he would give this land to his descendants.

[4:6]  ² tn Heb “that this may be”; the referent of “this” (the twelve stones) has been specified in the translation for clarity.
