1:8 This law scroll must not leave your lips! 1  You must memorize it 2  day and night so you can carefully obey 3  all that is written in it. Then you will prosper 4  and be successful. 5

10:24 When they brought the kings out to Joshua, he 6  summoned all the men of Israel and said to the commanders of the troops who accompanied him, “Come here 7  and put your feet on the necks of these kings.” So they came up 8  and put their feet on their necks.

[1:8]  2 tn Heb “read it in undertones,” or “recite it quietly” (see HALOT 1:237).

[1:8]  3 tn Heb “be careful to do.”

[1:8]  4 tn Heb “you will make your way prosperous.”

[1:8]  5 tn Heb “and be wise,” but the word can mean “be successful” by metonymy.

[10:24]  6 tn Heb “Joshua.” The translation has replaced the proper name with the pronoun (“he”) because a repetition of the proper name here would be redundant according to English style.

[10:24]  7 tn Or “Draw near.”
