Joshua 1:9

1:9 I repeat, ¹  be strong and brave! Don’t be afraid and don’t panic, ²  for I, the Lord your God, am with you in all you do.” ³ 

Joshua 2:22

2:22 They went ⁴  to the hill country and stayed there for three days, long enough for those chasing them ⁵  to return. Their pursuers ⁶  looked all along the way but did not find them. ⁷ 

[1:9]  ¹ tn Heb “Have I not commanded you?” The rhetorical question emphasizes the importance of the following command by reminding the listener that it is being repeated.

[1:9]  ² tn Or perhaps, “don’t get discouraged!”

[1:9]  ³ tn Heb “in all which you go.”

[2:22]  ⁴ tn Heb “they went and came.”

[2:22]  ⁵ tn Heb “the pursuers.” The object (“them”) is added for clarification.

[2:22]  ⁶ tn Heb “the ones chasing them.” This has been rendered as “their pursuers” in the translation to avoid redundancy with the preceding clause.

[2:22]  ⁷ tn Heb “The pursuers looked in all the way and did not find [them].”
