8:24 When Israel had finished killing all the men 2  of Ai who had chased them toward the desert 3  (they all fell by the sword), 4  all Israel returned to Ai and put the sword to it.

[10:20]  1 tn Heb “When Joshua and the sons of Israel finished defeating them with a very great defeat until they were destroyed (now the survivors escaped to the fortified cities).” In the Hebrew text the initial temporal clause (“when Joshua…finished”) is subordinated to v. 21 (“the whole army returned”).

[8:24]  2 tn Heb “residents.”

[8:24]  3 tn Heb “in the field, in the desert in which they chased them.”

[8:24]  4 tc Heb “and all of them fell by the edge of the sword until they were destroyed.” The LXX omits the words, “and all of them fell by the edge of the sword.” They may represent a later scribal addition.
