[11:17]  1 tn Heb “and struck them down and killed them.”

[12:7]  2 tn Heb “Joshua gave it to the tribes of Israel as a possession according to their allotted portions.”

[13:5]  3 tn Heb “and the land of the Gebalites.”

[13:5]  4 tn Or “the entrance to Hamath.” Most modern translations take the phrase “Lebo Hamath” to be a proper name, but often provide a note with the alternative, where “Hamath” is the proper name and לְבוֹא (lÿvo’) is taken to mean “entrance to.”

[3:25]  5 tn The article is retained in the translation (“the Lebanon,” cf. also NAB, NRSV) to indicate that a region (rather than the modern country of Lebanon) is referred to here. Other recent English versions accomplish this by supplying “mountains” after “Lebanon” (TEV, CEV, NLT).
