2:11 When we heard the news we lost our courage and no one could even breathe for fear of you. ¹  For the Lord your God is God in heaven above and on earth below!

Psalms 22:14

22:14 My strength drains away like water; ² 

all my bones are dislocated;

my heart ³  is like wax;

it melts away inside me.

Isaiah 13:7-8

13:7 For this reason all hands hang limp, ⁴ 

every human heart loses its courage. ⁵ 

13:8 They panic –

cramps and pain seize hold of them

like those of a woman who is straining to give birth.

They look at one another in astonishment;

their faces are flushed red. ⁶

[22:14]  ³ sn The heart is viewed here as the seat of the psalmist’s strength and courage.

[13:7]  ⁴ tn Heb “drop”; KJV “be faint”; ASV “be feeble”; NAB “fall helpless.”

[13:7]  ⁵ tn Heb “melts” (so NAB).

[13:8]  ⁶ tn Heb “their faces are faces of flames.” Their faces are flushed with fear and embarrassment.
