Joshua 2:16

2:16 She told them, “Head ¹  to the hill country, so the ones chasing you don’t find you. ²  Hide from them there for three days, long enough for those chasing you ³  to return. Then you can be on your way.”

Joshua 2:22

2:22 They went ⁴  to the hill country and stayed there for three days, long enough for those chasing them ⁵  to return. Their pursuers ⁶  looked all along the way but did not find them. ⁷

6:3 Have all the warriors march around the city one time; ⁸  do this for six days.

6:14 They marched around the city one time on the second day, then returned to the camp. They did this six days in all.

Joshua 9:16

9:16 Three days after they made the treaty with them, the Israelites found out they were from the local area and lived nearby. ⁹ 

Joshua 22:3

22:3 You have not abandoned your fellow Israelites ¹⁰  this entire time, ¹¹  right up to this very day. You have completed the task given you by the Lord your God. ¹²

[2:16]  ² tn Heb “so that the pursuers might not meet you.”

[2:16]  ³ tn Heb “the pursuers.” The object (“you”) is not in the Hebrew text but is implied.

[2:22]  ⁴ tn Heb “they went and came.”

[2:22]  ⁵ tn Heb “the pursuers.” The object (“them”) is added for clarification.

[2:22]  ⁶ tn Heb “the ones chasing them.” This has been rendered as “their pursuers” in the translation to avoid redundancy with the preceding clause.

[2:22]  ⁷ tn Heb “The pursuers looked in all the way and did not find [them].”

[6:3]  ⁷ tn Heb “and go around the city, all [you] men of war, encircling the city one time.” The Hebrew verb וְסַבֹּתֶם (vÿsabbotem, “and go around”) is plural, being addressed to the whole army.

[9:16]  ¹⁰ tn Heb “At the end of three days, after they made the treaty with them, they heard that they were neighbors to them and in their midst they were living.”

[22:3]  ¹³ tn Heb “your brothers” (also in vv. 4, 7), but this does not refer to siblings or necessarily even to relatives. It refers to the Israelites of the remaining tribes.

[22:3]  ¹⁴ tn Heb “these many days.”

[22:3]  ¹⁵ tn Heb “you have kept the charge of the command of the Lord your God.”
