Joshua 11:23--12:1

11:23 Joshua conquered ⁷  the whole land, just as the Lord had promised Moses, ⁸  and he assigned Israel their tribal portions. ⁹  Then the land was free of war.

Joshua 22:32

[2:9]  ¹ tn Heb “has given the land to you.” Rahab’s statement uses the Hebrew perfect, suggesting certitude.

[2:9]  ³ tn Or “melting away because of.”

[2:9]  ⁴ tn Both of these statements are actually subordinated to “I know” in the Hebrew text, which reads, “I know that the Lord…and that terror of you…and that all the inhabitants….”

[11:16]  ⁶ tn Or “foothills”; Heb “the Shephelah.”

[11:23]  ⁹ tn Heb “took.”

[11:23]  ¹⁰ tn Heb “according to all which the Lord said to Moses.” The translation assumes this refers to the promise of the land (see 1:3). Another possibility is that it refers to the Lord’s instructions, in which case the phrase could be translated, “just as the Lord had instructed Moses” (so NLT; cf. also NIV “had directed Moses”).

[11:23]  ¹¹ tn Heb “and Joshua gave it for an inheritance to Israel according to their allotted portions by their tribes.”

[12:1]  ¹³ tn Heb “and took possession of their land.”

[12:1]  ¹⁴ tn Heb “beyond the Jordan, toward the rising of the sun.”

[22:32]  ¹⁷ tn Heb “and Phinehas…returned from the sons of Reuben and from the sons of Gad, from the land of Gilead to the land of Canaan, to the sons of Israel. And they brought back to them a word.”
