22:3 You have not abandoned your fellow Israelites ¹  this entire time, ²  right up to this very day. You have completed the task given you by the Lord your God. ³

Joshua Challenges Israel to be Faithful

23:1 A long time ⁴  passed after the Lord made Israel secure from all their enemies, ⁵  and Joshua was very old. ⁶ 

[22:3]  ¹ tn Heb “your brothers” (also in vv. 4, 7), but this does not refer to siblings or necessarily even to relatives. It refers to the Israelites of the remaining tribes.

[22:3]  ² tn Heb “these many days.”

[22:3]  ³ tn Heb “you have kept the charge of the command of the Lord your God.”

[23:1]  ⁴ tn Heb “many days.”

[23:1]  ⁵ tn Heb “the Lord had given rest to Israel from their enemies all around.”

[23:1]  ⁶ tn Heb “was old, coming into the days.” This expression, referring to advancing in years, also occurs in the following verse.
