Joshua Challenges Israel to be Faithful

23:1 A long time ¹  passed after the Lord made Israel secure from all their enemies, ²  and Joshua was very old. ³ 

Joshua 1:13

1:13 “Remember what Moses the Lord’s servant commanded you. ⁴  The Lord your God is giving you a place to settle and is handing this land over to you. ⁵ 

Joshua 3:13

3:13 When the feet ⁶  of the priests carrying the ark of the Lord, the Ruler ⁷  of the whole earth, touch ⁸  the water of the Jordan, the water coming downstream toward you will stop flowing and pile up.” ⁹ 

Joshua 21:44

21:44 The Lord made them secure, ¹⁰  in fulfillment of all he had solemnly promised their ancestors. ¹¹  None of their enemies could resist them. ¹² 

Joshua 22:4

22:4 Now the Lord your God has made your fellow Israelites secure, ¹³  just as he promised them. So now you may turn around and go to your homes ¹⁴  in your own land ¹⁵  which Moses the Lord’s servant assigned to you east of the Jordan.

Joshua 1:15

1:15 until the Lord gives your brothers a place like yours to settle and they conquer the land the Lord your God is ready to hand over to them. Then you may go back to your allotted land and occupy the land Moses the Lord’s servant assigned you east of the Jordan.” ¹⁶

[23:1]  ² tn Heb “the Lord had given rest to Israel from their enemies all around.”

[23:1]  ³ tn Heb “was old, coming into the days.” This expression, referring to advancing in years, also occurs in the following verse.
