3:8 Instruct the priests carrying the ark of the covenant, ‘When you reach the bank of the Jordan River, ¹  wade into the water.’” ²

6:9 Armed troops marched ahead of the priests blowing the horns, while the rear guard followed along behind the ark blowing rams’ horns.

Joshua 6:16

6:16 The seventh time around, the priests blew the rams’ horns and Joshua told the army, ³  “Give the battle cry, ⁴  for the Lord is handing the city over to you! ⁵ 

[3:8]  ¹ tn Heb “the edge of the waters of the Jordan.” The word “River” is not in the Hebrew text, but has been supplied for clarity.

[3:8]  ² tn Heb “stand in the Jordan.” Here the repetition of the word “Jordan” would be redundant according to contemporary English style, so it was not included in the translation.

[6:16]  ³ tn Heb “the people.”

[6:16]  ⁴ tn Or “the shout.”

[6:16]  ⁵ tn Heb “for the Lord has given to you the city.” The verbal form is a perfect, probably indicating certitude here.
