Joshua 8:1

Israel Conquers Ai

8:1 The Lord told Joshua, “Don’t be afraid and don’t panic! ¹  Take the whole army with you and march against Ai! ²  See, I am handing over to you ³  the king of Ai, along with his people, city, and land.

Joshua 20:6

20:6 He must remain ⁴  in that city until his case is decided by the assembly ⁵  and the high priest dies. ⁶  Then the one who committed manslaughter may return home to the city from which he escaped.” ⁷ 

[8:1]  ¹ tn Or perhaps “and don’t get discouraged!”

[8:1]  ² tn Heb “Take with you all the people of war and arise, go up against Ai!”

[8:1]  ³ tn Heb “I have given into our hand.” The verbal form, a perfect, is probably best understood as a perfect of certitude, indicating the certainty of the action.

[20:6]  ⁴ tn Or “live.”

[20:6]  ⁵ tn Heb “until he stands before the assembly for judgment.”

[20:6]  ⁶ tn Heb “until the death of the high priest who is in those days.”

[20:6]  ⁷ tn Heb “may return and enter his city and his house, the city from which he escaped.”
