The Gibeonites Deceive Israel

9:1 When the news reached all the kings on the west side of the Jordan ¹  – in the hill country, the lowlands, ²  and all along the Mediterranean coast ³  as far as ⁴  Lebanon (including the Hittites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites) –

Joshua 22:5

22:5 But carefully obey the commands and instructions Moses the Lord’s servant gave you. Love ⁵  the Lord your God, follow all his instructions, ⁶  obey ⁷  his commands, be loyal to him, ⁸  and serve him with all your heart and being!” ⁹

[9:1]  ² tn Or “foothills”; Heb “the Shephelah.”

[9:1]  ³ tn Heb “all the coast of the Great Sea.” The “Great Sea” was the typical designation for the Mediterranean Sea.

[9:1]  ⁴ tn Heb “in front of.”

[22:5]  ⁵ tn Heb “But be very careful to do the commandment and the law which Moses, the Lord’s servant, commanded you, to love.”

[22:5]  ⁶ tn Heb “walk in all his paths.”

[22:5]  ⁷ tn Or “keep.”

[22:5]  ⁸ tn Heb “hug him.”

[22:5]  ⁹ tn Or “soul.”

[24:17]  ⁹ tn Heb “of the house of slavery.”

[24:17]  ¹⁰ tn Heb “for the Lord our God, he is the one who brought up us and our fathers from the land of Egypt, from the house of slaves.”
