14:21 “If the person is poor and does not have sufficient means, 1  he must take one male lamb as a guilt offering for a wave offering to make atonement for himself, one-tenth of an ephah of choice wheat flour mixed with olive oil for a grain offering, a log of olive oil, 2 

Numbers 6:21

Context

6:21 “This is the law 3  of the Nazirite who vows to the Lord his offering according to his separation, as well as whatever else he can provide. 4  Thus he must fulfill 5  his vow that he makes, according to the law of his separation.”

Deuteronomy 16:17

Context
16:17 Every one of you must give as you are able, 6  according to the blessing of the Lord your God that he has given you.

[14:21]  1 tn Heb “and his hand does not reach”; NAB, NRSV “and cannot afford so much (afford these NIV).”

[6:21]  3 tn Actually, “law” here means a whole set of laws, the basic rulings on this topic.

[6:21]  4 tn Heb “whatever else his hand is able to provide.” The imperfect tense has the nuance of potential imperfect – “whatever he can provide.”

[6:21]  5 tn Heb “according to the vow that he vows, so he must do.”

[16:17]  6 tn Heb “a man must give according to the gift of his hand.” This has been translated as second person for stylistic reasons, in keeping with the second half of the verse, which is second person rather than third.
