Leviticus 26:23-28

26:23 “‘If in spite of these things ¹  you do not allow yourselves to be disciplined and you walk in hostility against me, ²  26:24 I myself will also walk in hostility against you and strike you ³  seven times on account of your sins. 26:25 I will bring on you an avenging sword, a covenant vengeance. ⁴  Although ⁵  you will gather together into your cities, I will send pestilence among you and you will be given into enemy hands. ⁶  26:26 When I break off your supply of bread, ⁷  ten women will bake your bread in one oven; they will ration your bread by weight, ⁸  and you will eat and not be satisfied.

26:27 “‘If in spite of this ⁹  you do not obey me but walk in hostility against me, ¹⁰  26:28 I will walk in hostile rage against you ¹¹  and I myself will also discipline you seven times on account of your sins.

The Curse of Covenant Termination

28:58 “If you refuse to obey ¹²  all the words of this law, the things written in this scroll, and refuse to fear this glorious and awesome name, the Lord your God, 28:59 then the Lord will increase your punishments and those of your descendants – great and long-lasting afflictions and severe, enduring illnesses. 28:60 He will infect you with all the diseases of Egypt ¹³  that you dreaded, and they will persistently afflict you. ¹⁴  28:61 Moreover, the Lord will bring upon you every kind of sickness and plague not mentioned in this scroll of commandments, ¹⁵  until you have perished.

Psalms 125:5

125:5 As for those who are bent on traveling a sinful path, ¹⁶ 

may the Lord remove them, ¹⁷  along with those who behave wickedly! ¹⁸

[125:5]  ¹⁶ tn Heb “and the ones making their paths twisted.” A sinful lifestyle is compared to a twisting, winding road.

[125:5]  ¹⁷ tn Heb “lead them away.” The prefixed verbal form is understood as a jussive of prayer here (note the prayers directly before and after this). Another option is to translate, “the Lord will remove them” (cf. NIV, NRSV).

[125:5]  ¹⁸ tn Heb “the workers of wickedness.”

[125:5]  ¹⁹ tn Heb “peace [be] upon Israel.” The statement is understood as a prayer (see Ps 122:8 for a similar prayer for peace).
