Leviticus 4:31

Context
4:31 Then he must remove all of its fat (just as fat was removed from the peace offering sacrifice) and the priest must offer it up in smoke on the altar for a soothing aroma to the Lord. So the priest will make atonement 1  on his behalf and he will be forgiven. 2

Leviticus 13:34

Context
13:34 The priest must then examine the scall on the seventh day, and if 3  the scall has not spread on the skin and it does not appear to be deeper than the skin, 4  then the priest is to pronounce him clean. 5  So he is to wash his clothes and be clean.

Leviticus 13:51

Context
13:51 He must then examine the infection on the seventh day. If the infection has spread in the garment, or in the warp, or in the woof, or in the leather – whatever the article into which the leather was made 6  – the infection is a malignant disease. It is unclean.

Leviticus 14:10

14:10 “On the eighth day he 7  must take two flawless male lambs, one flawless yearling female lamb, three-tenths of an ephah of choice wheat flour as a grain offering mixed with olive oil, 8  and one log of olive oil, 9

Leviticus 16:18

Context

16:18 “Then 10  he is to go out to the altar which is before the Lord and make atonement for it. He is to take 11  some of the blood of the bull and some of the blood of the goat, and put it all around on the horns of the altar.

[4:31]  1 sn The focus of sin offering “atonement” was purging impurities from the tabernacle (see the note on Lev 1:4).

[4:31]  2 tn Heb “there shall be forgiveness to him” or “it shall be forgiven to him” (KJV similar).

[13:34]  3 tn Heb “and behold” (so KJV, ASV).

[13:34]  4 tn Heb “and its appearance is not deep ‘from’ (comparative מִן, min, meaning “deeper than”) the skin.”

[13:34]  5 tn This is the declarative Piel of the verb טָהֵר (taher, cf. the note on v. 6 above).

[13:51]  5 tn Heb “to all which the leather was made into a handiwork.”

[14:10]  7 tn The subject “he” probably refers to the formerly diseased person in this case (see the notes on Lev 1:5a, 6a, and 9a).

[14:10]  8 tn This term is often rendered “fine flour,” but it refers specifically to wheat as opposed to barley (B. A. Levine, Leviticus [JPSTC], 10) and, although the translation “flour” is used here, it may indicate “grits” rather than finely ground flour (J. Milgrom, Leviticus [AB], 1:179; see the note on Lev 2:1). The unit of measure is most certainly an “ephah” even though it is not stated explicitly (see, e.g., Num 28:5; cf. 15:4, 6, 8), and three-tenths of an ephah would amount to about a gallon, or perhaps one-third of a bushel (J. E. Hartley, Leviticus [WBC], 196; Milgrom, 845). Since the normal amount of flour for a lamb is one-tenth of an ephah (Num 28:4-5; cf. 15:4), three-tenths is about right for the three lambs offered in Lev 14:10-20.

[14:10]  9 tn A “log” (לֹג, log) of oil is about one-sixth of a liter, or one-third of a pint, or two-thirds of a cup.

[16:18]  9 tn Heb “And.” The Hebrew conjunction ו (vav, “and”) indicates the sequence of events here.

[16:18]  10 tn Heb “And he shall take.”
