• [Luk 2:22] Hail To The Lord Who Comes

  Hail to the Lord Who comes, Comes to His temple gate; Not with His angel host, Not in His kingly state; No shouts proclaim Him nigh, No crowds His coming wait. But, borne upon the throne Of Mary’s gentle breast, Watched by her duteous love, In her fond arms at rest, Thus to His Father’s house He comes, the heav’nly Guest. There Joseph at her side In reverent wonder stands, And, filled with holy joy, Old Simeon in his hands Takes up the promised Child, The Glory of all lands. Hail to the great First-born Whose ransom price they pay! The Son before all worlds, The Child of man today, That He might ransom us Who still in bondage lay. O Light of all the earth, Thy children wait for Thee! Come to Thy temples here, That we, from sin set free, Before Thy Father’s face May all presented be!

• [Luk 2:22] O Happy Day, When First Was Poured

  O happy day, when first was poured The blood of our redeeming Lord! O happy day, when first began His sufferings for sinful man! Just entered on this world of woe, His blood already learned to flow; His future death was thus expressed, And thus His early love confessed. From heaven descending to fulfill The mandates of His Father’s will, E’en now behold the victim lie, The Lamb of God, prepared to die! Lord, circumcise our hearts, we pray, Our fleshly natures purge away; Thy Name, Thy likeness may they bear: Yea, stamp Thy holy image there! O Lord, the virgin born, to Thee Eternal praise and glory be, Whom with the Father we adore, And Holy Ghost forevermore.

• [Luk 18:16] Friend Of The Home

  Friend of the home: as when in Galilee The mothers brought their little ones to Thee, So we, dear Lord, would now the children bring, And seek for them the shelter of Thy wing. Thine are they, by Thy love’s eternal claim, Thine we baptize them in the threefold Name; Yet not the sign we trust, Lord, but the grace That in Thy fold prepared the lambs a place. Lord, may Thy Church, as with a mother’s care, For Thee the lambs within her bosom bear; And grant, as morning grows to noon, that they Still in her love and holy service stay. Draw through the child the parents nearer Thee, Endue their home with growing sanctity; And gather all, by earthly homes made one, In Heaven, O Christ, when earthly days are done.

• [Luk 18:16] I Think, When I Read That Sweet Story

  I think, when I read that sweet story of old, When Jesus was here among men, How He called little children as lambs to His fold, I should like to have been with them then. I wish that His hands had been placed on my head, That His arms had been thrown around me, And that I might have seen His kind look when He said, “Let the little ones come unto Me.” Yet still to His foot stool in prayer I may go; And ask for a share in His love; And if I thus earnestly seek Him below, I shall see Him and hear Him above. But thousands and thousands who wander and fall, Never heard of that heavenly home; I wish they could know there is room for them all, And that Jesus has bid them to come. In that beautiful place He has gone to prepare For all who are washed and forgiven; And many dear children shall be with Him there, For “of such is the kingdom of heaven.” I long for the joy of that glorious time, The sweetest and brightest and best, When the dear little children of every clime Shall crowd to His arms and be blest.

• [Luk 18:16] It Fell Upon A Summer Day

  It fell upon a summer day, When Jesus walked in Galilee, The mothers from a village brought Their children to His knee. He took them in His arms, and laid His hands on each remembered head; “Suffer these little ones to come To Me,” He gently said. “Forbid them not. Unless ye bear The childlike heart your hearts within, Unto My kingdom ye may come, But may not enter in.” Master, I fain would enter there; O let me follow Thee and share Thy meek and lowly heart, and be Freed from all worldly care. Of innocence, and love, and trust, Of quiet work, and simple word, Of joy, and thoughtlessness of self, Build up my life, good Lord. All happy thoughts, and gentle ways, And lovingkindness daily given, And freedom through obedience gained, Make in my heart Thy heaven. O happy thus to live and move! And sweet this world, where I shall find God’s beauty everywhere, His love, His good in all mankind. O Father, grant this childlike heart, That I may come to Christ, and feel His hands on me in blessing laid, Love-giving, strong to heal.

  Oh, come, little children, oh, come, one and all, To Bethlehem’s stable, in Bethlehem’s stall. And see with rejoicing this glorious sight, Our Father in heaven has sent us this night. Oh, see in the manger, in hallowèd light A star throws its beam on this holiest sight. In clean swaddling clothes lies the heavenly Child, More lovely than angels, this Baby so mild. Oh, there lies the Christ Child, on hay and on straw; The shepherds are kneeling before Him with awe. And Mary and Joseph smile on Him with love, While angels are singing sweet songs from above.

  Thy little ones, dear Lord, are we, And come Thy lowly bed to see; Enlighten every soul and mind, That we the way to Thee may find. With songs we hasten Thee to greet, And kiss the dust before Thy feet; O blessèd hour, O sweetest night, That gave Thee birth, our soul’s delight. O draw us wholly to Thee, Lord, Do Thou to us Thy grace accord, True faith and love to us impart, That we may hold Thee in our heart. Until at last we too proclaim With all Thy saints, Thy glorious Name; In paradise our songs renew, And praise Thee as the angels do.
