Luke 7:6

7:6 So ¹  Jesus went with them. When ²  he was not far from the house, the centurion ³  sent friends to say to him, “Lord, do not trouble yourself, ⁴  for I am not worthy ⁵  to have you come under my roof.

10:38 with respect to Jesus from Nazareth, ⁶  that ⁷  God anointed him with the Holy Spirit and with power. He ⁸  went around doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, ⁹  because God was with him. ¹⁰ 

[7:6]  ¹ tn Here δέ (de) has been translated as “so” to indicate the resultative action.

[7:6]  ² tn The participle ἀπέχοντος (apeconto") has been taken temporally.

[7:6]  ⁵ sn Note the humility in the centurion’s statement I am not worthy in light of what others think (as v. 4 notes). See Luke 5:8 for a similar example of humility.

[10:38]  ⁶ sn The somewhat awkward naming of Jesus as from Nazareth here is actually emphatic. He is the key subject of these key events.

[10:38]  ⁷ tn Or “how.” The use of ὡς (Jws) as an equivalent to ὅτι (Joti) to introduce indirect or even direct discourse is well documented. BDAG 1105 s.v. ὡς 5 lists Acts 10:28 in this category.

[10:38]  ⁸ tn Grk “power, who.” The relative pronoun was replaced by the pronoun “he,” and a new sentence was begun in the translation at this point to improve the English style, due to the length of the sentence in Greek.

[10:38]  ⁹ tn The translation “healing all who were oppressed by the devil” is given in L&N 22.22.
