Luke 1:17

1:17 And he will go as forerunner before the Lord ¹  in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers back to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, ²  to make ready for the Lord a people prepared for him.”

Luke 12:20

12:20 But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life ³  will be demanded back from ⁴  you, but who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’ ⁵ 

Luke 12:47

12:47 That ⁶  servant who knew his master’s will but did not get ready or do what his master asked ⁷  will receive a severe beating.

[1:17]  ² sn These two lines cover all relationships: Turn the hearts of the fathers back to their children points to horizontal relationships, while (turn) the disobedient to the wisdom of the just shows what God gives from above in a vertical manner.

[12:20]  ³ tn Grk “your soul,” but ψυχή (yuch) is frequently used of one’s physical life. It clearly has that meaning in this context.
