Luke 23:47

23:47 Now when the centurion ⁵  saw what had happened, he praised God and said, “Certainly this man was innocent!” ⁶

[1:17]  ² sn These two lines cover all relationships: Turn the hearts of the fathers back to their children points to horizontal relationships, while (turn) the disobedient to the wisdom of the just shows what God gives from above in a vertical manner.

[18:9]  ³ tn Grk “He”; the referent has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[18:9]  ⁴ tn Grk “and despised.” This is a second parable with an explanatory introduction.

[23:47]  ⁵ sn See the note on the word centurion in 7:2.

[23:47]  ⁶ tn Or “righteous.” It is hard to know whether “innocent” or “righteous” is intended, as the Greek term used can mean either, and both make good sense in this context. Luke has been emphasizing Jesus as innocent, so that is slightly more likely here. Of course, one idea entails the other.
