Luke 1:25

1:25 “This is what ¹  the Lord has done for me at the time ²  when he has been gracious to me, ³  to take away my disgrace ⁴  among people.” ⁵ 

Luke 21:6

21:6 “As for these things that you are gazing at, the days will come when not one stone will be left on another. ⁶  All will be torn down!” ⁷ 

Luke 23:29

23:29 For this is certain: ⁸  The days are coming when they will say, ‘Blessed are the barren, the wombs that never bore children, and the breasts that never nursed!’ ⁹ 

Luke 13:14

13:14 But the president of the synagogue, indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, said to the crowd, “There are six days on which work ¹⁰  should be done! ¹¹  So come ¹²  and be healed on those days, and not on the Sabbath day.”

[1:25]  ³ tn Grk “has looked on me” (an idiom for taking favorable notice of someone).

[1:25]  ⁴ sn Barrenness was often seen as a reproach or disgrace (Lev 20:20-21; Jer 22:30), but now at her late age (the exact age is never given in Luke’s account), God had miraculously removed it (see also Luke 1:7).

[1:25]  ⁵ tn Grk “among men”; but the context clearly indicates a generic use of ἄνθρωπος (anqrwpo") here.

[21:6]  ⁶ sn With the statement days will come when not one stone will be left on another Jesus predicted the total destruction of the temple, something that did occur in a.d. 70.

[21:6]  ⁷ tn Grk “the days will come when not one stone will be left on another that will not be thrown down.”

[23:29]  ¹¹ tn Grk “For behold.”

[23:29]  ¹² tn Grk “Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that have not borne, and the breasts that have not nursed!”

[13:14]  ¹⁶ sn The irony is that Jesus’ “work” consisted of merely touching the woman. There is no sense of joy that eighteen years of suffering was reversed with his touch.

[13:14]  ¹⁷ tn Grk “on which it is necessary to work.” This has been simplified in the translation.

[13:14]  ¹⁸ tn The participle ἐρχόμενοι (ercomenoi) has been translated as a finite verb due to requirements of contemporary English style.
