[1:80]  1 tn This verb is imperfect.

[1:80]  2 tn This verb is also imperfect.

[1:80]  3 tn Or “desert.”

[1:80]  4 tn Grk “until the day of his revealing.”

[6:23]  5 tn Grk “because behold.” The Greek word ἰδού (idou) at the beginning of this clause has not been translated because it has no exact English equivalent here, but adds interest and emphasis (BDAG 468 s.v. 1).

[6:23]  6 tn Or “forefathers”; Grk “fathers.”

[6:23]  7 sn Mistreatment of the prophets is something Luke often notes (Luke 11:47-51; Acts 7:51-52).

[13:16]  9 tn Here δέ (de) has been translated as “then” to show the connection with Jesus’ previous statement.

[13:16]  10 tn Grk “is it not necessary that.” Jesus argues that no other day is more appropriate to heal a descendant of Abraham than the Sabbath, the exact opposite view of the synagogue leader.

[13:16]  11 sn Note that this is again a battle between Satan and God; see 11:18-23.

[13:16]  12 tn The word “long” reflects the emphasis added in the Greek text by ἰδού (idou). See BDAG 468 s.v. 1.

[13:16]  13 tn Or “bondage”; Grk “bond.”

[15:13]  13 tn Grk “And after.” Here καί (kai) has not been translated because of differences between Greek and English style.

[15:13]  14 tn Grk “after not many days.”

[15:13]  15 tn Or “wasted.” This verb is graphic; it means to scatter (L&N 57.151).

[15:13]  16 tn Or “estate” (the same word has been translated “estate” in v. 12).

[17:24]  17 sn The Son of Man’s coming in power will be sudden and obvious like lightning. No one will need to point it out.

[17:24]  18 tc Some very important mss (Ì75 B D it sa) lack the words ἐν τῇ ἡμέρα αὐτοῦ (en th Jhmera autou, “in his day”), but the words are included in א A L W Θ Ψ Ë1,13 Ï lat sy bo. On the one hand, the shorter reading is impressive because it has some of the best Alexandrian and Western witnesses in support; on the other hand, the expression ἐν τῇ ἡμέρα αὐτοῦ is unusual (found nowhere else in the NT), and may be considered the harder reading. A decision is difficult, but it is probably best to retain the words. NA27 rightly has the words in brackets, expressing doubt as to their authenticity.

[19:42]  21 sn On this day. They had missed the time of Messiah’s coming; see v. 44.

[19:42]  22 tn Grk “the things toward peace.” This expression seems to mean “the things that would ‘lead to,’ ‘bring about,’ or ‘make for’ peace.”

[19:42]  23 sn But now they are hidden from your eyes. This becomes an oracle of doom in the classic OT sense; see Luke 13:31-35; 11:49-51; Jer 9:2; 13:7; 14:7. They are now blind and under judgment (Jer 15:5; Ps 122:6).

[21:37]  25 tn Here δέ (de) has been translated as “so” since vv. 37-38 serve as something of a summary or transition from the discourse preceding to the passion narrative that follows.

[21:37]  26 tn Grk “he”; the referent (Jesus) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[21:37]  27 tn Grk “in the temple.”

[21:37]  28 tn Grk “and spent the night,” but this is redundant because of the previous use of the word “night.”

[21:37]  29 tn Grk “at the mountain called ‘of Olives.’”

[22:66]  29 tn Or “and the scribes.” See the note on the phrase “experts in the law” in 5:21.

[22:66]  30 tn Here καί (kai) has been translated as “then” to indicate the implied sequence of events within the narrative.

[22:66]  31 tn Grk “him”; the referent (Jesus) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[22:66]  32 sn Their council is probably a reference to the Jewish Sanhedrin, the council of seventy leaders.
