Luke 10:30

10:30 Jesus replied, ¹  “A man was going down ²  from Jerusalem ³  to Jericho, ⁴  and fell into the hands of robbers, who stripped him, beat ⁵  him up, and went off, leaving him half dead. ⁶

12:48 But the one who did not know his master’s will ⁷  and did things worthy of punishment ⁸  will receive a light beating. ⁹  From everyone who has been given much, much will be required, ¹⁰  and from the one who has been entrusted with much, ¹¹  even more will be asked. ¹² 

[10:30]  ¹ tn Grk “answering, said.” This is redundant in contemporary English and has been simplified to “replied.”

[10:30]  ² sn The journey from Jerusalem to Jericho was 17 mi (27 km), descending some 1800 ft (540 m) in altitude. It was known for its danger because the road ran through areas of desert and caves where the robbers hid.

[12:48]  ⁷ tn Grk “did not know”; the phrase “his master’s will” is not in the Greek text, but is implied. Direct objects were frequently omitted in Greek when clear from the context, but must be supplied for the contemporary English reader.
