  Day by day the manna fell; O to learn this lesson well! Still by constant mercy fed, Give me Lord, my daily bread. “Day by day,” the promise reads, Daily strength for daily needs; Cast foreboding fears away; Take the manna of today. Lord! my times are in Thy hand; All my sanguine hopes have planned, To Thy wisdom I resign, And would make Thy purpose mine. Thou my daily task shalt give; Day by day to Thee I live; So shall added years fulfill, Not my own, my Father’s will. Fond ambition, whisper not; Happy is my humble lot. Anxious, busy cares away; I’m provided for today. Oh, to live exempt from care By the energy of prayer: Strong in faith, with mind subdued, Yet elate with gratitude!

• [Luk 14:15] Come, Sinners, To The Gospel Feast

  Come, sinners, to the Gospel feast; Let every soul be Jesus’ guest. Ye need not one be left behind, For God hath bid all humankind. Sent by my Lord, on you I call; The invitation is to all. Come, all the world! Come, sinner, thou! All things in Christ are ready now. Come, all ye souls by sin oppressed, Ye restless wanderers after rest; Ye poor, and maimed, and sick, and blind, In Christ a hearty welcome find. Come, and partake the Gospel feast; Be saved from sin; in Jesus rest; O taste the goodness of your God, And eat His flesh, and drink His blood! You vagrant souls, on you I call; (O that my voice could reach you all!) You all may now be justified, You all may live, for Christ hath died. My message as from God receive; Ye all may come to Christ and live. O let His love your hearts constrain, Nor permit Him to die in vain. His love is mighty to compel; His conquering love consent to feel, Yield to His love’s resistless power, And fight against your God no more. See Him set forth before your eyes, That precious, bleeding Sacrifice! His offered benefits embrace, And freely now be saved by grace. This is the time, no more delay! This is the Lord’s accepted day. Come thou, this moment, at His call, And live for Him Who died for all. Jesus to you His fullness brings, A feast of marrow and fat things. Do not begin to make excuse, Ah! do not you His grace refuse. Your grounds forsake, your oxen quit, Your every earthly thought forget, Seek not the comforts of this life, Nor sell your Savior for a wife. “Have me excused,” why will ye say? Why will ye for damnation pray? Have you excused—from joy and peace! Have you excused—from happiness: Excused from coming to a feast! Excused from being Jesus’ guest! From knowing now your sins forgiven, From tasting here the joys of Heaven. Excused, alas! why should you be From health, and life, and liberty, From entering into glorious rest, From leaning on your Savior’s breast? Sinners my gracious Lord receives, Harlots, and publicans, and thieves; Drunkards, and all ye hellish crew, I have a message now to you. The worst unto My supper press, Monsters of daring wickedness, Tell them My grace for all is free. They cannot be too bad for Me.

  The King of Heav’n His table spreads, And blessings crown the board; Not paradise, with all its joys, Could such delight afford. Pardon and peace to dying men, And endless life are giv’n, Through the rich blood that Jesus shed To raise our souls to Heav’n. Ye hungry poor, that long have strayed In sin’s dark mazes, come: Come from the hedges and highways And grace shall find you room. Millions of souls, in glory now, Were fed and feasted here; And millions more, still on the way, Around the board appear. Yet is His house and heart so large, That millions more may come; Nor could the wide assembling world O’erfill the spacious room. • [Luk 22:19] According To Thy Gracious Word

  According to Thy gracious word, In meek humility, This will I do, my dying Lord, I will remember Thee. Thy body, broken for my sake, My bread from Heaven shall be; The testamental cup I take, And thus remember Thee. Gethsemane can I forget? Or there Thy conflict see, Thine agony, and bloody sweat, And not remember Thee? When to the cross I turn mine eyes, And rest on Calvary, O Lamb of God, my sacrifice, I must remember Thee; Remember Thee, and all Thy pains And all Thy love to me; Yea, while a breath, a pulse remains, Will I remember Thee. And when these failing lips grow dumb And mind and memory flee, When Thou shalt in Thy kingdom come, Jesus, remember me.

• [Luk 22:19] Do This; Remember Me!

  Our Lord and His disciples at table were as one, And Jesus thought of the morrow, His work here nearly done. With one last night together, they knew not what would be, But Jesus had one final word: “Do This; Remember Me!” Thanksgiving to the Father, an ancient feast made new. Christ said, “This is My body, My body giv’n for you.” The holy bread was broken and shared with Jesus’ plea That His words not be forgotten: “Do This; Remember Me!” He took the cup of blessing, the blood of Jesus shed That all might know forgiveness, received when Jesus bled. Salvation now available to all on bended knee Who repent and follow His command: “Do This; Remember Me!” Yes, Christ’s command continues to all who serve His Name To go and make disciples, that all would sing His fame. And gathered at one table His holy church shall see Our Master is still calling: “Do This; Remember Me!”

• [Luk 22:19] Sing, My Tongue, The Savior’s Glory

  Sing, my tongue, the Savior’s glory, Of His flesh the mystery sing, Of the blood, all price exceeding, Shed by our immortal King, Destined, for the world’s redemption, From a noble womb to spring. Of a pure and spotless virgin, Born for us, His love to show, He, as man, with man conversing, Stayed, the seeds of truth to sow; Then He closed in wondrous fashion, This His life on earth below. On the night of that Last Supper, Seated with His chosen band, He, the paschal victim eating, First fulfills the law’s command; Then as food to all His brethren Gives Himself with His own hand. Christ, the Word made Flesh, by speaking, Earthly bread to flesh He turns; Wine becomes His blood so precious— Unconceived in human terms! Hearts sincere perceive this marvel; Faith its lessons quickly learns. Down in adoration falling, This great sacrament we hail; Over ancient forms of worship Newer rites of grace prevail; Faith tells us that Christ is present When our human senses fail. To the everlasting Father, And the Son Who made us free, And the Spirit, God proceeding, From them each eternally, Be salvation, honor, blessing, Might and endless majesty.

  Sweet feast of love divine! ’Tis grace that makes us free To feed upon this bread and wine, In memory, Lord, of Thee. Here every welcome guest Waits, Lord, from Thee to learn The secrets of Thy Father’s breast, And all Thy grace discern. Here conscience ends its strife, And faith delights to prove The sweetness of the bread of life, The fullness of Thy love. Thy blood that flowed for sin, In symbol here we see, And feel the blessèd pledge within, That we are loved of Thee. But if this glimpse of love Is so divinely sweet, What will it be, O Lord, above, Thy gladdening smile to meet— To see Thee face to face, Thy perfect likeness wear, And all Thy ways of wondrous grace Through endless years declare!
