[12:39]  1 sn On Jesus pictured as a returning thief, see 1 Thess 5:2, 4; 2 Pet 3:10; Rev 3:3; 16:15.

[12:39]  2 tc Most mss (א1 A B L Q W Θ Ψ 070 Ë1,13 33 Ï lat syp,h sams bo) read “he would have watched and not let” here, but this looks like an assimilation to Matt 24:43. The alliance of two important and early mss along with a few others (Ì75 א* [D] e i sys,c samss), coupled with much stronger internal evidence, suggests that the shorter reading is authentic.

[20:2]  3 tn Grk “and said, saying to him.” This is redundant in English and has been simplified in the translation.

[20:2]  4 tn On this phrase, see BDAG 844 s.v. ποῖος 2.a.γ.

[20:2]  5 sn The leadership is looking back to acts like the temple cleansing (19:45-48). How could a Galilean preacher do these things?

[24:19]  5 tn Here καί (kai) has not been translated because of differences between Greek and English style.

[24:19]  6 tn This translates the Greek term ἀνήρ (anhr).

[24:19]  7 sn The role of Jesus as prophet is a function Luke frequently mentions: 4:25-27; 9:35; 13:31-35.
